Program Advisor: Sean Monemi

Dr. Sean Monemi is a Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Advisor of IEEE-PES student club, and Founder/Director of Smart Grid Research Laboratory at California State Polytechnic University. He has over 30 years of industry and academic experience. He worked as a lead senior engineer and supervisor in one of the largest power utility companies. His research areas cover Smart Grid Technologies, Renewable Energy, Model Integrated Computing, Simulation and Diagnostics of Power Grid, and Fault Management Analysis in Power Systems.

Webmaster: Mohul Sarkar

Focused on innovating the future of intelligent energy systems through SCADA, IoT, and smart grid communications. I’m committed to designing scalable architecture that improve grid reliability and enable seamless data exchange between field devices and control centers.

Treasurer: Daniel Kovalski

Passionate about power engineering, driven by the exponential rise of AI and its unprecedented energy demands. I’m interested in smart grid technologies and exploring how alternative power generation systems like solar or nuclear power may be the critical solution to meet our future energy needs. Committed to developing infrastructure that can support the next generation of computing while ensuring reliable, scalable power delivery for a soon to be AI-driven world.

Scheduler: Andrew Nunez

Driven by curiosity for how energy powers everything from vehicles to cities, I focus on creating efficient and sustainable power systems that make energy safer, cleaner, and more accessible. I’m especially interested in solar and grid technologies that help reduce long-term costs and make renewable power available to everyone.

President: Ryan Monemi

Committed to revolutionizing our energy infrastructure. My interest lies in developing and implementing next-generation solutions that not only enhance grid stability but also fundamentally transform its capabilities for a more sustainable and interconnected world.

Vice President: Luis Ruvalcaba

I’m driven by a deep interest in how electrical infrastructure shapes modern life, from buildings to cities. My recent focus is on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) engineering, where power and energy principles directly translate into real-world impact. I’m especially interested in electrical distribution, lighting, and emergency power systems that keep critical spaces operating safely and efficiently. Through IEEE PES, I aim to help students connect theoretical power concepts to tangible infrastructure projects and develop the technical and professional skills needed to design systems that are built, used, and relied on every day.
